Friedrich Hollaender (
October 18 1896 -January 18 1976 ) was a German composer born in London. He was the son of composerVictor Hollander . The family returned to Germany and Frederick was educated at theBerlin Conservatory . By the age of 18 he had become an associate conductor at thePrague Opera House . After studying inBerlin , he composed music for productions by Max Reinhardt and became involved incabaret and wrote music for the film, "The Blue Angel" (1930). He leftNazi Germany and emigrated to theUnited States of America where he wrote the music for over a hundred films, including "Destry Rides Again " (1939), "A Foreign Affair " (1948), "The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T " (1953Academy Award nomination) and "Sabrina" (1954). Many of his songs were made famous byMarlene Dietrich . He can be seen as the piano accompanist in "A Foreign Affair". He received four Academy Award nominations for composition . In 1956 he returned to Germany, and died inMunich in 1976.elected Songs
