Dance Dance Revolution (Game Boy versions)

Dance Dance Revolution (Game Boy versions)

The Dance Dance Revolution (Game Boy versions) refer to multiple incarnations of the Dance Dance Revolution series made for the Game Boy Color. The versions made include Dance Dance Revolution GB, Dance Dance Revolution GB2, Dance Dance Revolution GB3, Dance Dance Revolution GB Disney Mix, and Dance Dance Revolution GB Oha Super Kids Station.

Gameplay

The Game Boy versions of Dance Dance Revolution are unique to the series in that they are the only versions to lack a dance-pad interface in which the feet are used. Plastic pads are sold with the games to be hooked into the back of the Game Boy. And by turning the pad option on, a player can play DDR on a pad with their fingers. The game could also be played by hitting the directional arrow buttons corresponding to the arrows scrolling upwards on the screen. In the case of two arrows scrolling upwards at once, the 'A' button also functions as the right arrow, while the 'B' button works as the up arrow. It is also well known for the arrow sync which makes the game a whole 8th note early.

Limited dance pad compatibility

Since 2005, it has been possible to use the Game Boy Player together with the GCN Action Pad (bundled with ) or the Mad Catz Beat Pad (bundled with MC Groovz Dance Craze and licensed by Nintendo) in order to play the game as it was never intended - on a dance-pad. However, due to common errors that the Game Boy Player introduces, gameplay is characterized by impaired sensitivity in the pad, double-strike errors, and time sync issues. These errors are a result of the fact that several of the GameCube's peripherals have been made after the release of the Game Boy Player and could not have been anticipated at the time of its release.

ongs

The Game Boy versions of Dance Dance Revolution include various lower-quality synthesized renditions of songs appearing in previous mixes. These mixes are noteworthy in that they contain no original musical content.
