The miliolids are a group of foraminiferans, abundant in shallow waters such as estuaries and coastlines, though they also include oceanic forms. They are distinguished by producing porcelaneous tests, composed of calcite needles and organic material; the needles have a high proportion of magnesium and are oriented randomly. The test lacks pores and generally has multiple chambers, which are often arranged in a distinctive fashion called milioline.
