Andrew Refshauge

Andrew John Refshauge (born 16 January 1949) was an Australian politician and Deputy Premier of New South Wales from 1995 to 2005.

Refshauge was born in Melbourne, the son of Major-General Sir William Refshauge (born 1913), who later became Commonwealth Director-General of Health. Andrew has a brother, Richard Refshauge, who is the present Director of Public Prosecutions for the ACT. Refshauge went on to study medicine and joined the Australian Labor Party. In 1983 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as the member for Marrickville. He served in a variety of portfolios, as well as rising to be the leader of the left faction of the party and deputy premier of the state. He resigned in August 2005, soon after the retirement of the premier, Bob Carr.
