- Västgöta Nation, Lund
The Västgöta Nation, or locally "VG's", is a
student society ofLund University inSweden .The nation traces its history to
1669 . The nation was intended for students from theVästergötland province in Sweden. Among the first decrees were a prohibition of discussions, making clear that is was a social society for relaxation and leisure. With the ensuing
Scanian War from1676 to1682 , the nation's activities were halted, and not reestablished until1685 . From 1685, its traditions have followed an unbroken succession, although it was merged with Östgöta Nation and Kalmar Nation between1767 and1821 , as a result of low student numbers at the university.Today the nation has 1,800 members out of the university's 34,000 students.
VG's is considered among students in Lund to serve the best food of all nations. This, accompanied by having a newly renovated restaurant are two very good reasons to start your wednesday night out with a "sittning" at VG's together with your friends. The night club, Metro, opens at 10 pm and offers free entry and line pass for guests at the sittning until 11.30 pm. For other guests it's an entrance fee of 50 SEK or, if you're a member of the nation, 30 SEK.
If you fancy going out on a friday night instead the restaurant at VG's is open then as well. The doors open at 7 pm and instead of the predetermined menu, which is the case on wednesdays, you can choose from three different main courses as well as a few different deserts. The bar offers, apart from beer, wine and drinks, also highly appreciated frozen daiquiris. This is the perfect start of your friday night whether you choose to continue to a night club afterwards or just want to relax and reward yourself after a hard week in school.
