Cooper Clan

Cooper Clan

The Cooper Clan is a fictional family line in the Sly Cooper video game series. It is the family of the protagonist, Sly Cooper. All members but he are deceased.

They have been master thieves for thousands of years, stealing only from criminals and those undeserving of what they possess, due to underhanded dealings or more sinister arrangements. They often assemble other thieves around them, forming the organization known as the Cooper Gang. The Cooper Clan has often clashed with criminal organizations. Their most ancient enemy is Clockwerk, who founded the Fiendish Five. After the events of Sly 3, it is very likely that the Cooper Clan are not thieves anymore.

Known members

*Slytankhamen II: Sly's ancestor from ancient Egypt, and creator of the Cooper Vault. He had two canes that bore a striking resemblance to the Egpytian Khopesh, and used the ability to turn invisible to steal from corrupt pharaohs and greedy noblemen. His name alludes to that of the famous young Pharaoh Tutankhamen. He also was skilled at putting up traps that were used in ancient Egyptian tombs. His ability was a power-up called Shadow Power.
*Sir Galleth of the Knights of the Cooper Order: Sly's ancestor from the Medieval Time. An honorable knight and cunning thief who fought with a lance with a hook point.
*Salim al Kupar of Arabia: A Cooper hailing from Arabia said to hold the stealth of 40 thieves, a reference to Ali Baba. His weapon was a sword with a curved, hooked blade - sporting a scimitar-like look, but with a much thicker blade. Naturally, he wore a turban in his Cooper vault portrait, indicating a possible Muslim or Dharmic religion.
*Slaigh MacCooper: The strongest of all of the Coopers, he could break any lock with one blow with his large stone cane. Judging from his Celtic attire in his Cooper vault picture (for example his kilt), he lived in a Celtic region such as Scotland or Ireland. He was the one who created the wall-edge sneak.
*Rioichi Cooper: Sly's ninja ancestor from feudal Japan. He perfected the ninja spire landing. His weapons were two hooked daggers.
*Henriette "One Eye" Cooper: A woman who sailed the seas and stole from other pirates. She had the innate ability to smell gold. Originally wielding a hooked dagger (as seen in the portrait of her in the Cooper vault), it can be assumed that she lost a hand and replaced it with a hook shaped like the trademark Cooper hook (as seen on the pedestal in front of the portrait). She's likely one of the most powerful of the Cooper-women, because she is the only women appearing in the . Sly also quips while in the Cooper Vault that he may have taken after her, referencing Chapter 6 of Sly 3.
*"Tennessee Kid" Cooper: Sly's Western-outlaw ancestor from nineteenth century United States of America. The "Kid" in his name alludes to Billy the Kid, a famous historic outlaw of the American west. He carried a six-shot revolver with a hooked handle. Tennessee Kid also invented the rail walk and rail slide.
*Thaddeus Winslow Cooper III: A Cooper who was the most "gentlemanly" thief and a master of disguise - he had a cane similar to Sly's, the only difference being a red ruby-like gem at the end of it.
* Otto Van Cooper: An ancestor of Sly's who was a genius mechanic and skilled fighter pilot, a little like Penelope. Due to his physical ineptitude, he used that talent to pull off heists, his machines facilitating his thievery. He kept some of his technical blueprints in the Thievius Raccoonus. The propeller blades of his biplane were shaped like the trademark Cooper hook. It's also probable that Otto was Sly's grandfather, being the last male mentioned in the Cooper Vault before Sly's father.
* Drake Cooper: He created the knockout dive.
* Sally Cooper: She created the roll move.
* Dev Cooperinda: The creator of the slow motion jumps.
* Chris Cooper: He invented the coin-collecting dive technique.
* Karen Coopergiwa: She invented the coin magnetism technique.
* Rob McCooper: He created the explosive hat mine technique.
* B.F. Cooper: The inventor of the fast motion technique
* Suzanne Cooper: She created the ability to jump out of water.
* Sir Andrew Cooper: He created the thief replica, or "decoy" technique.
* Kelle McCooper: The creator of the electric upgrade of the roll technique.
* Bruce O'Coop: An ancestor of Sly's who was an expert hacker.
* Matthew de la Coopeur: He created the perpetual slow motion technique. This is available in the other two Sly games, but renamed "Thief Reflexes".
* Huckleberry Cooper: Taking after the famous fictional Huckleberry Finn, he was the inventor of the ability to move (slowly) while invisible. According to Sly 3, this was Shadow Power Level 1.
*Colonel Reid Cooper: The inventor of the time stop move and the final ability. This is available in the other two Sly games, but only for Bentley in the 2nd game, and Murray in the 3rd game.
*Augustine Cooper: Inventor of the ability to briefly defy gravity.
*Sly's father: He used the same cane that belongs to Sly. Before being killed by the Fiendish Five, he pulled heists with McSweeney and Dr. M, and created a technique to walk along lasers. Sly's dad is seen as nothing more than a silhouette throughout the series. Sly's father is listed in the Disney magazine as having the first name Conner.
*Sly Cooper : Recoverer of the Thievius Raccoonus, he defeated Clockwerk at the age of 18, and then defeated the Klaww Gang, recovering the stolen Clockwerk parts and defeating Clock-La.

Thievius Raccoonus

The Thievius Raccoonus is an ancient book in which every Cooper Clan member over the centuries has recorded their thieving escapades, in addition to instructions on their various moves. It has been passed down through the family for generations, but was later stolen and divided among the Fiendish Five. After 10 years, Sly tracked down the criminals and recovered the Thievius Raccoonus, afterwards recording his own adventures in the great book. After Sly left the life of a thief behind to strike up a relationship with Carmelita Fox by feigning amnesia, the book was given into the care of Bentley, who became the first non-Cooper in history to write in the Thievius Raccoonus.

Cooper Vault

The Cooper Clan Vault is located on the fictional Kaine Island and is the main target in . It is home to all the treasures gathered by the clan since its start. Each family member has his or her own separate section for the gold he or she gathered, with a themed test and portrait decorated by the member's weapon.

The vault's only entrance is an unbreakable door, which can only be unlocked by the Cooper Cane (hence the name of the island). In Sly 3, Dr. M, the main antagonist, unsuccessfully tries to steal the treasures by breaking open the vault by force. After many more unsuccessful attempts, he grows paranoid and constructs a heavily-guarded fort on it. The Cooper Gang penetrates the defenses around the island and enters the vault. Inside, Sly Cooper and Carmelita Fox defeat Dr. M, which causes the vault to cave in, presumably killing Dr. M and seemingly giving Sly amnesia (he actually fakes it to grow closer to Carmelita Fox). After the events of the game, Bently, with help from Penelope, rebuilds the vault with a more advanced security system.
