Theresa-Marie Rhyne

Theresa-Marie Rhyne is the Director of the Center for Visualization and Analytics (CVA) in the Department of Computer Science at North Carolina State University in
Raleigh. The CVA studies the use of visualization technology and analytical methods to explore engineering, scientific, design and educational challenges. In July 2006, she also became the Director of the Renaissance Computing Institute's (RENCI) North Carolina State University (NCSU) Engagement Facility.

From April 2001 until July 2005, she was Coordinator of Special Technology Projects in Learning Technology Service at North Carolina State University, responsible for designing architecture to support campus-wide streaming media technologies for online instructional learning. She also served as a visualization advisor to NCSU’s Information Technology Division on NCSU’s High Performance Computing efforts.

As an employee of Lockheed Martin Technical Services (1993 - 2000), she was responsible for the Research and Development activities at the United States Environmental Protection Agency's Scientific Visualization Center and was the founding visualization expert at the Center.

She is also the founding director of the Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on Graphics Cartographic Visualization Project (ACM SIGGRAPH Carto Project) that began in 1996. This effort holds a Birds-of-a-Feather session each year at the annual SIGGRAPH conference.

Her specialties include streaming media, inter-networked 3D computer graphics, the application of art techniques to visualization, collaborative-networked visualization, environmental sciences visualization, transportation visualization and geographic visualization. She is also a practicing fine artist in the mediums of computer graphics and collage. She is the Visualization Viewpoints Department Editor of IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications Magazine and, as of 2008, serves on the Transportation Research Board's Committee on Visualization.
