binomial_authority =Reed et al., 2002The western whiptail ("Aspidoscelis tigris") is a small lizard that ranges throughout most of the
southwestern United States . Key differences between this species and theCheckered Whiptail ("Aspidoscelis tesselata") are the lack of enlarged scales anterior to thegular fold and the presence of enlargedantebatrachial scales. It was previously known under "Cnemidophorus tigris", until phylogenetic analyses concluded that the genus "Cnemidophorus" waspolyphyletic .This lizard is most famous for same-sex reproduction.
