Tim Louis (born
August 13 ,1958 ) is a formerVancouver city councillor and lawyer. He was first elected in 1999 as a member ofCoalition of Progressive Electors .Louis attended
Langara College and theUniversity of British Columbia where he graduated from law school. He articled with lawyer and then-city councillorHarry Rankin in 1984. Prior to his time on council, Louis was elected to the Vancouver Board of Parks & Recreation from 1990 to 1993. He had previously served on the board ofBC Transit 's paratransit service and was finance committee chair of the Vancouver Public Library Board.On council, Louis was known for his pointed questions aimed at the
Non-Partisan Association majority in his first council term, and frequently directed at his putative allies in theCoalition of Progressive Electors in his second. Louis proudly showed off hissocialist beliefs, often appearing at public functions in a redChe Guevara shirt. Louis was a critic of large government projects, including the Richmond-Airport-Vancouver rapid transit project and the2010 Olympic Winter Games .In the 2005 municipal election, Louis attracted attention when he told the "
Vancouver Sun " editorial board that he favoured establishing a city-owned non-profitbrothel to help protect sex-trade workers. He lost his council seat in that election, finishing 17th with 43,349 votes.External links
