Epiphone solid bodyelectric guitar model produced as a more modestly priced version of the famousGibson SG . Currently Epiphone is a subsidiary of Gibson and manufactures the G-400 and other budget models at a lower cost in Asia. Visually and ergonomically, it is almost identical to a 1962 SG.Features
The design of the G-400 follows that of the
Gibson SG . Features include: pointed "devil's horns" cutaways, smallerpickguard (as opposed to the larger, later style), trapezoidal fingerboard inlays (late 80s and early 90s models had dot inlays), dualhumbucker pickups, and bevelled body (mahogany ). The biggest visual differences from the Gibson SG are the Epiphone headstock and wood-bound neck. The standard G-400 is available in two finishes: ebony and cherry. The Faded G-400 comes in worn brown and worn cherry. In addition, new models now have Grover-brandmachine head s.Variants
It is available in many models, including G-400, Deluxe, Deluxe Flametop, Custom, Vintage, '66 Limited edition, EMG pickup Limited edition,
Pirates of the Caribbean version, Emily the Strange edition,Tony Iommi Signature, and Gothic. The Japanese-made Elitist G-400 has a slightly different shaped headstock than most Epiphone models.

colors = Ebony and Heritage Cherry.G-400 Deluxe
The Deluxe model is a slightly more expensive version of the G-400 with a
flame maple top and vintage sunburst finish.G-400 Custom
The G-400 Custom is modelled closely after the SG Custom built by Gibson. It features an antique ivory finish, gold hardware, and a triple-humbucker pickup configuration. Epiphone also introduced a limited edition version with a Maestro tremolo.
Custom Prophecy
The Custom Prophecy features a quilted maple finish on a mahogany body, two Gibson-made
Dirty Fingers coil splittable humbuckers, a 24 fret ebony fingerboard with custom "blade" inlays, a satin finished SpeedTaper neck, gold hardware and pearl knobs. It looks considerably different from other SGs because it has no scratch plate and there are only 2 knobs, located further up the body than usual.Tony Iommi G-400
The Tony Iommi G-400 is the Epiphone signature model of guitarist
Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath ). This all-black guitar is distinguished by its cruciform fingerboard inlays, a 2-octave 24-fret fingerboard, a solid maple neck(which makes it significantly heavier), the placement of the strap holder on the tip of the bass horn (a modification Iommi used—as opposed to at the neck joint), and Iommi's signature Gibson-designed pickups.Limited Edition with EMG Pickups
The limited edition Epiphone G-400 comes in an Alpine White finish. It is equipped with an EMG 81 pickup at the bridge and an EMG 85 pickup at the neck. The setup is similar to that preferred by guitarist
Zakk Wylde . In the U.K. however, the Limited Edition model has the standard Epiphone Alnico pickups, with the only difference from the standard G-400 model being the limited edition Alpine White finish.Limited Edition 1966 G-400
The 1966 G-400 is similar to the more common early 60's G-400, with the only visible differences being the full pickguard, and true Heritage Cherry finish. The neck joint, however, is in the style of the early '60's G-400, not the '66 like it should be. The 1966 G-400 was also available in a Black finish.
G-400 Goth
The G-400 Goth is part of Epiphone's Gothic range. Accordingly, it has a black finish, black hardware, black pickguard. Other features are open-coil pickups (i.e. without chrome covers) and no fret markers except for one "XII"-shaped inlay at the twelfth fret.

The G-310 is a cheaper version of the G-400 with a bolt-on neck, cheaper pickups (without chrome covers), dot inlays, and the larger style SG pickguard (this pickguard is unique to the 310 because it has no holes for the tune-o-matic bridge and tailpiece like the 1967 Gibson SG pickguards). It is produced in Indonesia, as opposed to China and/or Korea like the G-400. It is available in ebony, red, and vintage white. It also lacks the Grover tuning machines of recent production G-400s. The G-310 is also available with an Emily the Strange-themed graphic finish. The only other alteration to this edition is a
basswood body. [ [http://www.epiphone.com/default.asp?ProductID=238&CollectionID=16 Epiphone Musical Instruments] ] It is essentially the same as theEpiphone Les Paul Special II with the SG body style.Elitist G-400
The Elitist G-400 was made in Japan, and is currently out of production. The visual differences of this G-400 included the Elitist headstock, which had a truss rod cover with two screws more like a Gibson, and a bound neck. This model had the smaller pickguard found on the early '60's SGs. This version is far more expensive than the others and is of a better quality, using Gibson USA-made pickups.
