Sergey Vladimirovich Ilyushin ( _ru. Серге́й Владимирович Илью́шин; OldStyleDate|30 March|1894|18 March –
February 9 ,1977 ) was aRussia n aircraft designer who founded theIlyushin aircraft design bureau.Born in
Dilialevo ,Russia , he became interested in aviation in 1910 and was qualified as a pilot inWorld War I . After obtaining a degree in engineering from the Air Force Academy in 1926, he started designing aircraft. HisIlyushin Il-2 strike aircraft andIlyushin Il-4 bomber were used extensively inWorld War II . After the war, his commercial airliners, such as theIlyushin Il-18 andIlyushin Il-62 , saw extensive use.On his passing in 1977, he was interred in
Novodevichy Cemetery inMoscow .Dates
