George Yong-Boon Yeo (born
13 September 1954 ; zh-stp|s=杨荣文|t=楊榮文|p=Yáng Róngwén), or George Yeo, is the Minister for Foreign Affairs inSingapore . Ethnically Chinese, he belongs to theTeochew dialect group. He was a student of Saint Patrick's School andSaint Joseph's Institution . He was an SAF Overseas Merit Scholar and a President's Scholar. He rose to the rank of Brigadier General, prior to becoming a politician. Member of Parliament forAljunied Group Representation Constituency since1988 but the team he led in the 2006 General Elections managed only 56.1% of the votes compared with 43.9% garnered by new faces in theWorkers' Party . This was despite the James Gomez saga plaguing the opposition. The main election issues in the Elections included employment; cost of living; government policies; the need for an effective opposition voice in parliament; and the quality of the candidates.George Yeo was the first Singaporean Minister to start blogging. He has been blogging since August 2006.
Yeo is married to lawyer Jennifer Yeo Lai Peng and he is also the uncle of Chinese American actress
