Asunción ,Paraguay ) is a Paraguayan football midfielder, currently playing forOlimpia Asunción . His style of play has led the Paraguayan media to call him the "Master of the Midfield". Paredes plays defensive mid-field, though he can also play as centre-forward, being a lethal header. He also has exceptional leadership capabilities on the field, where he is constantly marshalling instructions to the rest of the team.Career
Paredes started his career in Club Olimpia of
Paraguay in 1995, winning five national championships and becoming the youngest captain in the club's history at the age of 20. In 2000 he moved to FC Porto ofPortugal where he won theCup of Portugal in the 2000/2001 season. In 2002 he was transferred to Reggina. In 2006 Paredes moved toSporting Clube de Portugal where he was allowed very little game time despite his many talents and immense experience. In January 2008 his contract was terminated by Sporting.Paredes returned to Paraguay in 2008 to play for the team he first played for, Olimpia. Currently, he is the team captain and undisputed leader on the field. He has scored two goals in the first three games of the Apertura tournament.
Along with
Denis Caniza , Paredes could become one of the first Paraguayan players to play in three world-cups if Paraguay qualifies for the 2010 tournament in South Africa. He has played in the 1998, 2002 and 2006 World Cups so far.Titles
