Cáceres first club was
Olimpia Asunción , where he became Paraguayan champion in 1999 and 2000, and won theCopa Libertadores in 2002 and theRecopa Sudamericana in 2003. He was bought byFC Nantes in 2004. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury and could not play for several months. After recovering, Nantes had already a new coach that did not give Cáceres a place in the first team. Because of that, he was loaned to Brazilian club Atlético Mineiro for the 2005/06 season. At the start of the 2006 season, he got the attention of River Plate, one of the biggest clubs inArgentina , where he moved on loan fromFC Nantes and immediately became a key player and even the squad captain. After a short spell with Club Gimanstic de Tarragona in the Spanish first division, Cáceres was signed byUANL Tigres at the beginning of 2007 where he has maintained a regular starting position.Cáceres again competed in the
FIFA World Cup in 2006 and was the most solid defender in the Paraguayan defence. He is expected to take charge of the leading role in the defence now that veteranCarlos Gamarra announced his retirement from the national team. His excellent form has caught the eye of many European clubs including
Wigan Athletic ,Newcastle United andReal Zaragoza . He has recently pulled out of Paraguay's upcoming friendly against Austria, claiming that he is extremely fatigued after starting every game this season forUANL Tigres .Titles
