Alexander Hurwitz

Alexander Hurwitz is an American mathematician born October 16, 1937 who discovered the 19th and 20th known Mersenne primes in 1961. He graduated from UCLA with a PhD in Mathematics and went on to work for IBM in their research department for over 25 years. He now resides in Santa Clara, CA with his wife, Leslie Hurwitz. His two sons are Andrew Hurwitz (August 23, 1975) and Michael Hurwitz (January 12, 1980).
