Peter W. Kunhardt, is a documentary film-maker and co-founder (with
Tom Bernstein ) of theInternational Freedom Center . He was a producer and director of thePBS series "Freedom: A History of US" (2003), which served as one of the inspirations for the creation of The International Freedom Center. He is the grandson of famed children's book authorDorothy Kunhardt , best-known for her 1940 creation 'Pat the Bunny'.Mr. Kunhardt founded Kunhardt Productions with his father, Philip Kunhardt, Jr., and his brother, Philip Kunhardt, III, in 1987. Kunhardt Productions has been retained to develop the content for the International Freedom Center under Peter Kunhardt’s leadership. As creative director of the Center, Peter Kunhardt was responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of content development for the Center. Mr. Kunhardt reports to Mr. Bernstein and works closely with
Richard Tofel , president and chief operating officer of the Center.Before founding Kunhardt Productions, Mr. Kunhardt worked for 10 years at
ABC News . He is the winner of three national television Emmy Awards, including for "JFK: In His Own Words" (1988). He is co-author of the book "Lincoln: An Illustrated Biography" (1992) and served as producer and director of the ABC mini-series "Lincoln". He co-produced a ten-hour series for PBS, "The American President" (1999). In 2003 he served as an executive producer for In Memoriam, a one hour co-production withHBO and Brad Grey Television recounting howMayor Rudolph Giuliani and his staff coped with the terrorist attacks ofSeptember 11 ,2001 .Mr. Kunhardt lives in
Chappaqua, New York with his wife, Suzy, and their four children.
