Lutzow-Holm Bay

Lutzow-Holm Bay

Lutzow-Holm Bay (coord|69|10|S|37|30|E|) is a large bay in Antarctica, about 120 miles wide, indenting the coast of Queen Maud Land between Riiser-Larsen Peninsula and the coastal angle immediately east of the Flatvaer Islands. It was discovered by Capt. Hjalmar Riiser-Larsen in two airplane flights from his expedition vessel, the Norvegia, on February 21 and February 23, 1931. The name honours Cdr. Finn Lützow-Holm of the Norwegian Naval Air Service, a pilot for Captain Riiser-Larsen on the "Aagaard" in 1935.
