Roberto ""El Toro" Acuña, fullname Roberto Miguel Acuña Cabello (born March 25, 1972 in Avellaneda, Buenos Aires), is a football (soccer) player from Paraguay whose position is central midfielder. His nickname is "Toro" (Bull), because of his strength and dominating presence.

Career

At a young age, Acuña migrated to Paraguay, where he started playing for Club Nacional in 1989. [ [http://www.apf.org.py/jugador_mes.php?id=64 De vuelta a casa] ] After five years, he decided to acquire Paraguayan citizenship to play for the Paraguay national team, where he became the second most capped player in their history with 96 caps between 1993 and 2006, second only to Carlos Gamarra. Acuña also played club football for Club Atlético Independiente and Boca Juniors of Argentina before moving to Europe, where he played for Real Zaragoza and Deportivo de La Coruña. He was back to Paraguay in 2007, this time to play for Olimpia. In 2001, he won the Paraguayan Footballer of the Year award.
