Mar Jacob Thoonkuzhy

Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy is a Catholic archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Archdiocese of Thrissur in India. Thoomkuzhywas born in Vilakumadam in the Eparchy of Palai on December 13, 1930. He studied at the St. Joseph's Pontifical Seminary in Alwaye and later at the Pontifical Urban University and the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome. In 1973, Thoomkuzhy, ordained by Joseph Cardinal Parecattil, became the first bishop of the newly erected eparchy of Mananthavady. He briefly served as bishop of Thamarassery (1995-1997) before finally being named archbishop of Trichur.
