Georg "Goggi" Hólm (born April 6, 1976) is the bassist of the Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós. Hólm is the most prominent member of Sigur Rós in the English press, as he does significantly more press than the other members due to his being the most fluent English-speaker in the band; part of Georg's fluency in English comes from briefly living in Brighton, England.

Hólm was inspired at an early age by bassists such as "Flea" of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, whom Hólm openly admits inferiority to.

Biography

Personal life

He has a wife named Svanhvít. His stepdaughter, Salka, has a song named after her and Elena their younger daughter. His father, Haukur, is a news reporter on a local TV station, Stöð 2 (Channel 2). His mother's name is Helga.

Georg has two brothers; Kristinn Hólm (1989) and Starri (1999).

Trivia

*He is nicknamed "White Fang" due to his ability to catch trout with his teeth. [cite web |url= http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk/band/trivia.php |title=http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk/band/trivia.php |work=sigur-ros.co.uk]
*He and Jónsi are the remaining founding members of Sigur Rós.
*He is the only member of Sigur Rós without a patronymic name. The majority of Icelanders have a patronym rather than surname.
*The idea for Jónsi using the cello bow on his guitar initially came about when former drummer Ágúst got the bow for his birthday, and Georg started "torturing" his bass with it (it did not sound good). Jónsi then tried it out on his guitar, with better results.
*The song "Hafsól" is widely known for being the song where Georg uses a drumstick on his bass.
*As with the other members of Sigur Rós, he plays multiple instruments during a typical live show. This often includes, in addition to electric and acoustic bass guitars, keyboards, glockenspiel, and drums.
*He is educated as a filmmaker.
*The song Salka, a former live only song, released on Hvarf-Heim in 2007, is named after his stepdaughter.
