WGEM-DT2 is the CW-affiliated television station for Quincy, Illinois. The station is part of The CW Plus, a special CW feed that broadcasts on cable and / or over-the-air on a digital signal. The CW Plus serves smaller television markets with a DMA rank above 100 (the Quincy / Hannibal market has a rank of 171). WGEM-DT2 is a second digital subchannel of the area's NBC affiliate WGEM-TV which is owned by Quincy Newspapers.

Over-the-air, WGEM-DT2 broadcasts a digital signal on UHF channel 54.2 from WGEM's transmitter (which is located east of Downtown Quincy on Cannonball Road near I-172). The station is also offered on Insight cable channel 6. WGEM-DT2 is known on-air as "Tri-State's CW"".

The station broadcasts the national CW Plus feed which includes "The Daily Buzz" on weekday mornings at 5 AM. WGEM-DT2's parent station has studios that are located in the Hotel Quincy on Hampshire Street in Downtown Quincy.

History

WGEM-DT2 began broadcasting as a WB affiliate. It was a cable-only station, and as a result, had the fictional call letters "WEWB-TV". The station was part of The WB 100+ cable group as The WB required over-the-air affiliates above the top 100 markets to be on cable.

On January 24, 2006, the UPN and WB networks announced that they would cease broadcasting and merge. The new combined network would be called The CW, the letters representing the first initial of its corporate parents: CBS (the parent company of UPN) and the Warner Bros. unit of Time Warner.

On September 18, 2006, The CW debuted on WEWB (now known officially as WGEM-DT2). The station became part of The CW Plus. This service is a similar operation to The WB 100+.
