Bones was signed by the Padres as an
amateur free agent inMay 13 ,1986 making his Major League debut inAugust 11 ,1991 against theCincinnati Reds . He pitched seveninnings , allowed only 2 hits, and received his first professional victory.In
March 26 ,1992 , Bones was traded withMatt Mieske andJosé Valentín to theMilwaukee Brewers forGary Sheffield andMinor League prospectGeoff Kellogg . He stayed with the Brewers for more than 4 seasons. During that time, he was elected to the American League All-Star team in by|1994, but did not play in the game. OnAugust 29 ,1996 , he was traded by the Brewers to theNew York Yankees withPat Listach andGraeme Lloyd forBob Wickman andGerald Williams . He only played four games with the Yankees before being granted free agency inOctober 25 . After that, he started moving from team to team playing with theCincinnati Reds , the Brewers again,Kansas City Royals ,Minnesota Twins ,Baltimore Orioles , andFlorida Marlins . InNovember 5 ,2001 , he was granted free agency by the Marlins and he chose to retire. He is currently the pitching coach of theBinghamton Mets .Bones was noted for his dominance of left-handed batters and his long hair. He was featured on a very limited edition "Gold Rush" baseball card, that is both rare and very expensive.
