Juan Arnoldo Cayasso Reid (born
June 24 ,1961 inLimón ) is aCosta Rica n formersoccer player who shined during the 1980s and 1990s. Cayasso played in Costa Rica for the two biggest teams, starting out inLD Alajuelense in the early 80's, and later switching to their arch-rivalsSaprissa before the 1988 season. His transfer caused a lot of national attention, due to the fact that he was considered one of the most talented players in Costa Rica at the time.Cayasso won several national championships, both with
Saprissa and Alajuela, as well as a twoCONCACAF Champions Cup titles, withLD Alajuelense in 1986 and withSaprissa in 1995. He also played regularly with Costa Rica's national team, making his debut in 1983 and is usually remembered for scoring the first Costa Rican goal in a World Cup, againstScotland during the1990 World Cup played inItaly . That game was won by the Ticos, against all predictions. He played his 49th and last international in 1993 against Jamaica.During the early 90's, Cayasso played in the German Bundesliga with
Stuttgarter Kickers , and later came back toSaprissa , where he retired after helping his team win several titles more. Currently, he coachesLimón 's football team, his hometown, in Costa Rica's second division.
