Genesee Valley Transportation, based in Batavia, New York, is a holding company for several short-line railroads located in New York and Pennsylvania.

Overview

Genesee Valley Transportation (GVT) began in 1985 in Upstate New York marketing rail-related services to both private and public industry throughout the northeast.

During the period from 1989 to date, GVT rail lines have grown from operating, at its beginning convert|3|mi|km of trackage, to a system of operating in 2 states with over convert|300|mi|km of rail line, a fleet of 28 locomotives, employing over 65 people and operating 8 terminals. GVT's continued growth during the next years is expected to keep the company as one of the premier regional railroads and logistics companies in the northeast.

GVT is privately owned with corporate headquarters located at 1 Mill Street, Batavia, New York 14020. The company serves over 125 customers throughout New York State and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. GVT's Class I interchange partners are CSX Transportation (MA&N, FRR and DL&W), Norfolk Southern (DL and DL&W) and Canadian Pacific (DL).

During 2004 GVT handled over 10,000 cars with revenues of $6.1M. In early 2002 GVT added its own lumber and commodity transload facility- DLWR Reload and Warehouse- on the DL&W at Depew, New York.

GVTRail is also the exclusive rail-service provider for the first ethanol plant in New York state. The plant, run by Western New York Energy, LLC, is located in the Town of Shelby on GVT's Falls Road Railroad.
