Velammal Engineering College (VEC), is an engineering college located in Puzhal near Chennai, India. Established in 1995, this college is managed by Velammal Education Trust, which was founded in 1986

Research and Development activities

* The Department of Computer Science has been in the forefront of establishment of the TIFAC-CORE on pervasive computing technologies at a cost of Rs.5.14 crores in the college. One Asst. Professor and 2 Lecturers have been deputed from the department to work in the CORE.
* The department has received a funding grant of Rs. 2.01 Lakhs from Tamil Virtual University for a project titled "Language Localization for Tamil in Mobile Phones" which was executed by a staff-student team comprising of Mr.Shriram Asst. Prof, Mr.S.R.Vasanth, Mr.K.P.Logeshwaran and Mr.N.Vikranth
* A project titled "Predictive texting in mobile phones" with a funding grant of Rs. 2.15 Lakhs is executed by the same team
* The Department is in collaboration in the computational studies aspect in a project prepared by Chemistry Department which is under consideration by Indian Council for Medical Research.
* A staff student team of the Department has won the second prize in the State level Project competition conducted under the auspices of kanithamizh sangam.
* During the year 2002-2003, the college sponsored several student scientific and technological projects as a part of celebrating "Year of Science". It is estimated that about 25 lakhs has been spent during this time to encourage innovative projects from students.
