Nicholas Cochrane (who would become Andy McDonald) replied that he had already been employed as an extra byGranada Television on a previous television programme.When the talent scouts were told this, Nicholas was selected out of the class and a search was on for another class member who had the same height, build and hair colouring as Nicholas and had participated in acting before the search.
As Simon Gregory was the only member of the class to fit these criteria, he was selected and the two were sent for further auditions at Granada Television.
In the end Nick and Simon were selected as the McDonald Twins, starting their television career at the age of 15 in 1989.
