R S McLaughlin Collegiate and Vocational Institute is located in
Oshawa ,Ontario within theDurham District School Board . The school has students in grades 9-12 and offers a wide range of academic and extracurricular activities. McLaughlin has produced notable cross-country runners.Courses
Courses at McLaughlin include Mathematics, Sciences, English, History (both American and Canadian), Geography, Computer Technology, Foods and Nutrition, Sociology, Body Sciences, Dramatic Arts, Music, and Physical Education.
M.C.V.I. also incorporates the Trade technologies into its program and offers Automotive Technology, Manufacturing and Welding Technology, and Woodworking. The Manufacturing and Welding shop of McLaughlin is one of the largest in the Durham District School Board.
Athletics
M.C.V.I. sports teams include girls and boys soccer, girls and boys volleyball, girls and boys basketball, boy's lacrosse, boys hockey, girls field hockey, wrestling, golf, tennis, and badminton. The McLaughlin sports teams have proven to be very successful over the years and have produced numerous championship victories.
McLaughlin is popular for its Cross Country and Track and Field teams and have produced notable cross-country runners such as Matt Bruce, currently running for Clemson University, and Marcus Dillon, currently running for Wake Forest.
The soccer program at McLaughlin is competitive. Training sessions and practices are run regularly throughout the year. The program is run by coaches D. Amenta, D. Abrams, and D. Roberts. The Junior Boys soccer team had a successful Fall 2007 season and placed first, winning the LOSSA gold medal. The Senior Boys soccer team did the same and will be travelling to Thunder Bay for the OFSAA championships in June 2008.
The Senior Boys and Senior Girls soccer teams will be travelling to Hawaii on March break of 2008 for a soccer tour, and to participate in an international soccer tournament. The Senior Boys are looking to do well in Hawaii to better prepare themselves for the OFSAA tournament. The Senior Boys team is lead by team captains B. Dubeau, and C. Hitchon.
