Port Perry High School is located in
Port Perry, Ontario within theDurham District School Board . The current principal is Ms. Bate.The school provides French Immersion courses to students from
Scugog andBrock Townships, and offers a Gifted Program for students from all three North Durham communities. Port Perry High School also provides a variety of Special Education programs, including Modified, Multiple Exceptionalities, Senior Associated and Senior Developmental classes. Port Perry High School also offers Technology programs in Communications, Horticulture, Automotive, Manufacturing, Hospitality and Cosmetology, Health Care, and Carpentry. The Co-operative Education program offers innovative placements in such popular workplaces as a home-building site inBrooklin, Ontario , the Canadian Armed Forces Militia inOshawa, Ontario and theRoyal Ontario Museum .The High School has for years been recognized for its academic and extra-curricular programs. Students studying in the Mathematics program have always scored well in
University of Waterloo -sponsored contests. The Fine Arts department includes a provincially and nationally recognized Music program, including instrumental and vocal ensembles that have traveled internationally over the past thirty years, a strong Visual Arts program that has seen over 50% of its graduates enter post-secondary Studio Art-related programs, and a Drama program which features notable Improv teams. The Canadian and World Studies department appointed renowned scholar Dr. J. Boucher in 2008 to establish an international development program to augment the senior geography curriculum. Focus will be on recognizing the growing disparity between rich an poor nations and the potential of student led initiatives to close the gap.The school's music department has been widely recognized as one of the finest in the country. Its ensembles include Guitar Ensemble, Peapods Blues Revue, 11, and several vocal and instrumental groups. As well as the official ensembles of the school it boasts an elite group of students known as The Accidentals. The 2007-2008 line-up for The Accidentals consisted of John Vaillancourt (Guitar, Lead Vocals, Keyboards), Drew Chester (Guitar, Lead Vocals, Keyboards) Nicole Damoff (Vocals, Lead Guitar), Brian McClean (Lead Guitar) Andrew "Thunderthumbs" Britton (Bass, Backing Vocals), Richard Girvan (Lead Guitar), and Jeremy Foster (Backing Vocals, Violin, Keyboards, Percussion) and the groups director Mr. Gordon "Girv" Girvan. In 2008 the school's music department went on tour to Cleveland Ohio and performed at many exciting venues including The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a Cleveland Indians baseball game.
The school's Science and Technology Departments have, along with main corporate sponsor GM Engineering Canada sponsored the
FIRST Robotics team known as Fast Eddie Robotics, or Team 1006. The team has quickly developed an impressive reputation amongst competitors, including winning the 2004 Greater Toronto Regional Chairman's Award, and the 2005 Waterloo Regional Chairman's Award. Fast Eddie Robotics has participated in Regional tournaments across the United States and Canada, and won the 2006 Arizona Regional. Fast Eddie Robotics has been invited on four occasions to travel to theFIRST World Championships, and has participated on three occasions at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.Port Perry High School's athletic programs are highly respected across Ontario. The Rebels boys' and girls' Rugby teams are perennial contenders at the provincial level - the Senior Boys' team earned an OFSAA Bronze Medal in 2006. Both programs frequently undertake international tours. The boys' and girls' Wrestling teams have merited significant attention over the past decade, including several individual OFSAA medals. The school has over the years been recognized provincially for its boys' and girls' basketball and volleyball programs. Recently, the school's track team has also received special attention - particularly its middle distance runners and pole vaulters.
Nearly 75% of Port Perry High School's students come from small hamlets and communities in Scugog Township that surround Port Perry, including Greenbank, Seagrave, Blackstock, Epsom, Nestleton, and Raglan.
