:"This is about the shopping street in
Sheffield . For the Quarter, seeThe Moor Quarter . For the novel byLaurie R. King , seeThe Moor (novel) . For other uses, seeMoor ."The Moor is one of the main shopping streets of
Sheffield ,England . Along its length lie some of the most populardepartment store s, and it is seen as one of the primaryretail core s of the city centre. The street was originally named Sheffield Moor, then in the early nineteenth century was renamed "South Street", [Joseph Woolhouse, " [http://www.jimsdesk.co.uk/1832.html A Description of the Town of Sheffield] "] but was again renamed in order to avoid confusion with a South Street near Hyde Park. The shops along it were rebuilt in the 1950s following damage inWorld War II , and the street has more recently beenpedestrian ised, withmarket stalls now occupying the roadway. The Moor stretches from "Moorhead" in the north (lying south of the
Peace Gardens ) to "Moorfoot" in the south, where the formerManpower Services Commission building blocks the route on to London Road.In 2008, it was announced that responsibility for the redevelopment of the Moor had passed from
RREEF toArtisan ----References
