Palace Echo

Palace Echo is an independent fanzine for supporters of Crystal Palace Football Club, and is the longest running Palace-related fanzine having been launched in October 1994.

History

Palace Echo started publication after its predecessor Eagle Eye decided to cease publication at the beginning of the 1993/94 football season. With Palace starting the season in poor form Palace Echo announced itself as "the new fanzine of Crystal Palace Nil".

Many of the previous Eagle Eye contributors have continued to play a part in the production of Palace Echo. Among these are the two editors in the fanzine's history, Laurie Dahl (who edited the first issues) and Neil Witherow (who edits the fanzine today). In September 2005 to celebrate Crystal Palace's centenary Palace Echo reverted back to the Eagle Eye name for one issue, and also managed to replicate the style of the original football fanzines. Like many such publications Palace Echo has moved with the times and is now produced with desktop publishing software.

Palace Echo has always enjoyed a cordial relationship with other Palace fanzines. It became the longest running Palace fanzine when One More Point ceased publication in 2003. The most recently launched Palace fanzine goes by the name Five Year Plan. Editor Neil Witheroe announced in April 2007 that Palace Echo would cease publication and the final edition was published and sold at the home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday 14 April, which ended in a 2-2 draw, ending Palace's outside chance of a play-off position.
