"Headfirst for Halos" is the sixth track from My Chemical Romance's debut album, "I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love". The cover of the single was seen in the "old school" music video for the song "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)", featured on the album "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge". The song peaked at #80 in the UK.

ong meaning

The song is about depression and contemplating suicide. The lyrics, "Now the red ones make me fly, and the blue ones help me fall" may refer to antidepressants or other drugs. According to lead vocalist Gerard Way, "This song is about suicide - don't do it." He also referred to the song before as being about "dancing your life away." It is a song that originally started off as a joke within the band, but the lead singer Gerard felt, that if they could pull it off it would allow them to take their music anywhere they choose to. "...it gave us such freedom," Gerard said. The line "think happy thoughts" refers to suicide and thinking happy thoughts to stop yourself committing suicide. It may also makes joking reference to Gerard's title role in a school musical as Peter Pan, where with the aid of 'pixie dust' and 'happy thoughts' the children are lifted into the air and learn to fly.

Though the song was actually started as a joke, Gerard believes that is the most important song in the album. Many people believe it was written during a time in which Frank Iero was high on drugs, this is incorrect. During this time, Gerard was addicted to anti-depressants and he was an alcoholic.
