start =Althorpe railway station serves the
village ofAlthorpe inNorth Lincolnshire . The station is also very close to the villages ofKeadby andGunness .Stopping services from Sheffield to Scunthorpe call at the station. These stopping services occasionally terminate at Doncaster, although during daytimes, certain services continue after Sheffield through to Lincoln Central.
Most services are provided by
Northern Rail who operate the station. Occasional services byTransPennine Express also call at this station.The station has very limited facilities. There is a shelter on each platform, with a telephone and a help point for contact with Customer Services and
British Transport Police on Platform 1 (Eastbound). Platform 2 (Westbound) is only accessible by a footbridge which has 50 steps.The station is on the west bank of the
River Trent , to the west of the combined road-and-rail King George V Bridge, which was a lifting bridge until the late 1950's.History
The first Althorpe station, opened by the
Great Central Railway , was replaced with a new station on the deviation over the new Trent lifting bridge and became Keadby Goods station. The new station, the one that now bears the name, became part of theLondon and North Eastern Railway during the Grouping of 1923. Then the station then passed on to theEastern Region of British Railways onnationalisation in 1948.When Sectorisation was introduced in the 1980's, the station was served by
Regional Railways until the Privatisation of British Railways.ervices
Services call here between approximately 0600 and 2315 Monday to Friday, and 0600 to 2215 Saturday on an hourly frequency each way. No services call at this station on Sundays.
