Pyotr Sumin

Pyotr Ivanovich Sumin (Russian: "Петр Иванович Сумин", born June 21 1946) is the governor of Chelyabinsk Oblast of Russia. He is a member of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. He became governor of Chelyabinsk Oblast in 1997. He has complained about nuclear waste in his region. Sumin was elected governor in 1996, taking office on January 5, 1997, and reelected in 2000.

In April 2005, following changes in the law, he was nominated for a third term by Russian President Vladimir Putin and unanimously confirmed by the Oblast assembly.
