White Hot Odyssey is an American band created in 2002, headed by Steve Perry, lead singer of the Cherry Poppin' Daddies along with the Daddies' guitarist Jason Moss and Eugene, Oregon musicians Mark Rogers, Ed Cole and Jivan Valpey. Steve Perry explains that he had always wanted to do a project similar to this since he was a child listening to performers such as The Stooges, New York Dolls, The Rolling Stones, The Small Faces, Sweet and David Bowie. According to frontman Perry, the band is an experiment in "sexual, stupid, big dumb rock," reminiscing of the 70's glam rock types in feather boas and other extravagant attire. White Hot Odyssey, however, is built around Louis XIV style powdered wigs and knee-length pants. The band, under its earlier name Dazzler, even opened for the Cherry Poppin' Daddies on a few occasions, with Perry singing for both groups. White Hot Odyssey's self-titled album was accepted and released by its label largely due to the success that The Darkness had recently seen. Perry was surprised because the same label representative had rejected a similar demo earlier.
