Viktor Georgiyevich Kulikov ( _ru. Виктор Георгиевич Куликов; born
July 5 ,1921 ) was theWarsaw Pact commander-in-chief from 1977 to 1989. He has held the rank of theMarshal of the Soviet Union for over 30 years, sinceJanuary 14 ,1977 .Kulikov saw service in the
Great Patriotic War and was made aHero of the Soviet Union . He commanded theKiev Military District in 1967-1969 and theGroup of Soviet Forces in Germany in 1969–1971. From 1971 until 1977, he served as the Chief of General Staff of theSoviet Armed Forces . In 1983, he was awarded aLenin Prize . Kulikov was been a member of the Soviet/Russian parliament 1989–2003.
