- USS New York
Seven United States Navy ships have borne the name USS "New York", five of them after the State of New York, and one after New York City.

** The first USS|New York|1776|2 was a gondola, built on Lake Champlain in 1776, that participated in theBattle of Valcour Island .
** The second USS|New York|1800|2 was a 36-gun frigate commissioned on 1800 and burned by the British in 1814.
** The third USS|New York|1820|2 was a 74-gun ship of the line, laid down in 1820 but which never left the stocks and was burned in 1861.
** A screw sloop named "New York" was laid down in 1863 as "Ontario", renamed in 1869, and sold while still on the stocks, in 1888.
** The fourth USS|New York|ACR-2|3 was an armored cruiser commissioned in 1893, in action in the Spanish-American War, renamed to "Saratoga" in 1911, renamed "Rochester" in 1917, decommissioned in 1933, and scuttled in 1941.
** The fifth USS|New York|BB-34|3 was a battleship laid down in 1911, commissioned in 1914, in action in both World Wars, decommissioned in 1946 and sunk as atarget ship after surviving two atomic bombs tests in 1946.
** The sixth USS|New York|LPD-21|3 is an amphibious transport dock, partly constructed with metal salvaged from the World Trade Center after September 11, 2001.* Named for New York City
