USS "Indiana" (BB-50) was cancelled prior to completion.
"Indiana" was scheduled to be a "South Dakota"-class battleship, the third
United States Navy ship to be named in honor of the 19th state.Her keel was laid down on
1 November 1920 by theNew York Navy Yard . Her construction was suspended on8 February 1922 at 34.7 percent complete, and canceled17 August 1923 in accordance with the provisions of theWashington Naval Treaty . She was struck from theNaval Vessel Register on24 August 1923 and sold on25 October 1923 to be scrapped.The armor plate in storage that was reserved for the ship was used to reinforce the defenses and locks at the
