The station was originally licensed to serveNew Richmond, Wisconsin as WIXK-FM,simulcast ing thecountry music format of that city'sWIXK 1590 AM.Hubbard Broadcasting Corporation bought both stations in 2000 for $27 million, and moved WIXK-FM to the Twin Cities. The format and call sign finally changed in mid-2002. Today, WFMP is licensed toCoon Rapids, Minnesota and broadcasts from theTelefarm installation in Shoreview.Much of the programming is locally produced.
