Silvia Marcovici (b.
January 30 ,1952 ) is aRomania n classicalviolinist .Born in
Bacău ,Romania , she studied at the Conservatory inBucharest . Her international debut was at the age of sixteen when she performed inThe Hague underBruno Maderna .In 1969, she won the first prize in the Marguerite Long/Jacques Thibaut Competition inParis , as well as the special prize ofRainier III, Prince of Monaco . In 1970, she was the winner of the first prize in theGeorge Enescu Competition in Bucharest. In 1972, she was invited byLeopold Stokowski to play the Glazunov Violin Concerto with theLondon Symphony Orchestra at theRoyal Albert Hall , recorded by Decca.Her discography includes
Debussy , Franck,Fauré sonatas for Aurophon-Classics and Sibelius Violin Concerto withNeeme Järvi and the Göteborg Symphony Orchestra for BIS.She performs frequently in South and North America, Japan, Israel and all over Europe. A refined musician with a fascinating stage presence, Silvia Marcovici exhibits robust and productive activity in chamber music. She appears often in recitals with famous pianists, and recently also with her son Aimo Pagin, himself a pianist.
She currently lives in
