After taking his first carry from scrimmage against the University of Arkansas in 2002, Williams raced untouched 80 yards to the end zone. Shaud shared the running duties with former player Santonio Beard. The duo combined for a virtually unstoppable rushing attack engineered by former head coach Dennis Franchione. The Crimson Tide finished the season with 10-3 without a bowl appearance due to being on probation. In 2003, Shaud Williams rushed for over 1,300 yards in his first full year as a starter.
