MC-21

The MC-21 (MS-21 design codename) is a proposed series of three twin-engine short-range and mid-range Russian jet airliners with capacity of 150-210 passengers to be produced by United Aircraft. It is being jointly developed by Ilyushin, Sukhoi, Irkut and Yakovlev and is targeted to enter service in 2012.

Development and design

The initial design is to include composite materials (about 33%), increasing to 40-45% provided a composite wing is added in 2015. Engines will be Russian made.

As of yet, no airlines have announced orders for the MC-21.

The MS-21 is due to receive 'concept approval' late in 2008 with production due to start at Irkut's IAZ plant in 2015. [Flight International 28-24 March 2008]

Variants

;MS-21 100:Was planned as the baseline model with up to 132 passengers. Now, it will no longer be built to remove competition with the stretched 110 to 130-seat Superjet 100.;MS-21-200:Up to 156 passengers, similar to the Boeing 737-700 and the Airbus A319.;MS-21-300:Baseline model with up to 174 passengers, similar to the Boeing 737-800 and the Airbus A320.;MS-21-400:Proposed stretched model with up to 210 passengers, similar to the Boeing 757-200 and Airbus A321
