Cheryl Boyd Waddell (died April 27, 2002), was an American opera singer.

An agile lyrical soprano, the singer established in Atlanta, Cheryl Boyd Waddell was dedicated to recitals throughout the United States. Her extensive credits in recitals, oratory, chamber music and musical theater were the result of a vocal training that began at the tender age of 16 under the direction of the lyrical-coloratura French singer, Alice Mock. Having debuted as a soloist in the piano with the symphonic orchestra of Long Beach, California. At 12 years of age, she was already dedicated to the interpretive arts. The inclination toward the vocal music happened naturally, considering that she became a special student of Estelle Harman in the Actors Studio of Hollywood. She made her professional first appearance as a singer when she was 16 years old, with the Downey Civic Light Opera, as Maria in The Sound of Music. Cherly was a soprano soloist of ensemble, of contemporary music. And acted with Thamyris, a Chamber musical group that has received international attention; It was four times winner of the prize ASCAP/Chamber Music America, for a more adventurous programming .Three times winner of the Cultural prize: Olympiad Designation,under the auspices of Yvar Mikhashoff trust New for Music, the Readers´Digest, National Endowment for the Arts and the Aron Fund Coplans for Music. Also, Miss Boyd-Waddell has been presented in festivals of music of British Columbia, California, New York, Florida and Georgia. Including the festival of the Batiquitos, the Festival Johanessen, the Festival Spoletto-USA, and the International Festival Montreaux. Her concerts as a soloist, as well as her recitals in a duet with her sister, Boyd the pretty flautist, have been received warmly in many universities and other organizations in the United States and CanadaAs a soloist and main singer of Thamyris, Cherly performed in more than 30 presentations in the leading role, including interpretations of well known composers like:Charles Wuorinen, Karl Boelter, Frédéric Goossen, Stephen Paulus, Steven Everett, Caspar Johannes Walter,Brent Weaver and Alun Hoddinott. Two CDs were produced with thamyris: "Not Longer of That World", received an excellent review and a nomination to the Grammy, while the second CD, "City of Angels" will be released for sale to the public in May of the 2001. Her interpretations have been transmitted by the program "Performance Today" of the National Public Radio, and the Public Radio of Western Germany. Cheryl Boyd-Waddell was also a voice professor and director of vocal activities at Clayton College and State University in Georgia. She resided in Marietta. Waddell served on the national College Faculty Forum Advisory Committee and was an MTNA member since 1991.
