Biography
Professor Stoner graduated summa cum laude with an A.B. from
Middlebury College in 1977, where he was a student ofMurray Dry and Paul Nelson. He obtained both his M.A. (1980) and Ph.D. (1987) fromHarvard University , studying under professorHarvey Mansfield . Before arriving at LSU in 1988, Professor Stoner was an Instructor in Politics and Public Policy atGoucher College from. He is a member of theNational Council on Humanities and was appointed to that post byGeorge W. Bush in 2002. Professor Stoner was the chair of the drafting committee of thePrinceton Principles , a policy paper released July 13, 2006 on the Importance of Marriage and the Public Good.
