USS Reprisal

Two ships of the United States Navy have borne the name USS "Reprisal", promising hostile action in response to an offense.

* The first USS|Reprisal|1776|2, 18, was a brig purchased by the American Continental Congress to serve in the American Revolutionary War.
*The USS|San Jacinto|CVL-30|2 was originally laid down as the "Newark", a Cleveland class light cruiser, and converted to an Independence class light carrier with the name "Reprisal". After the loss of the "Houston", she was renamed the "San Jacinto".
* The second USS|Reprisal|CV-35|3 was to be an aircraft carrier, but construction was cancelled in August 1945.
* An aircraft carrier named USS "Reprisal" has appeared as a location in the television show JAG. Her part is played by USS|Forrestal|CV-59.
