Lake Paiku is located on the Tibetan Plateau, “The Roof of the World”, at 4,591 meters (15,070 ft) (coord|28|55|N|85|35|E|type:waterbody). Lake Paiku is 27 km (17 miles) long and 6 km (4 miles) wide at its narrowest point. Surrounded by rugged mountains on three sides that reach altitudes in excess of 5,725 meters (19,000 ft), numerous small streams drain into the lake. Streams fed by glaciers cascade to the valley floor south of Lake Paiku, but only a few streams actually reach the lake. Lake Paiku has no stream outlet.
