Acaxee was a
Taracahitian tribe or group of tribes in theSierra Madre Occidental in easternSinaloa and NWDurango . Their culture was based onhorticulture and the exploitation of wild animal and plant life.History
In December
1601 , the Acaxees, under the direction of an elder namedPerico , began an uprising against Spanish rule. This revolt was called (the Acaxee Rebellion). They are said to have been converted to the Catholic faith by the society ofJesuit s in1602 . Early historic accounts indicate continual warfare and endemiccannibalism among theTarahumara , "Acaxee", andXixime who inhabited Nuevo Leon.ubdivisions
