Salim Khan (born 1935) is an
India n actor and scriptwriter. He wrote numerous screenplays forBollywood films in the 1970s. He frequently collaborated with writerJaved Akhtar ; the duo is credited asSalim-Javed .Career
Film director K. Amarnath saw Salim at a wedding and was impressed by his good looks. He asked Salim to come to Mumbai, where he hired him as an actor for Rs. 400 a month.
Salim acted in various movies, in large and small parts, for seven years. He never captured the public's fancy and his career stalled. He appeared in such films as:

Javed Akhtar on the set of "Sarhaadi Lootera". Javed was a clapper boy who later graduated to writing dialogue. The two hit it off and formed a scriptwriting team, known asSalim-Javed .Their first big success was the script for "Seeta aur Geeta" (1972). They also had hits in
Zanjeer (1973),Deewaar (1975), "Sholay " (1975), andTrishul (1978).They split up in the early 1980s. Neither scriptwriter has had much success in scriptwriting since the breakup.
Personal life
Salim Khan was born in
November 24 1935 , inIndore , India. His father was a police officer; his mother died when he was still young.In 1964, he married a non-
Muslim woman Sushila Charak alias Salma, aHindu fromMaharashtra . Salma's Hindu family was unhappy that she had married a Muslim. Her father refused to speak to Salim or Salma for seven years after the wedding.Salim and Salma have had four children: Salman (b. 1965), Arbaaz (b. 1967), Sohail (b. 1970), Alvira.
In the late 1970s, Salim took a second wife, the dancer/actress Helen, who lives in a separate household. Relations between his two families were rumoured to have been tense at first, but Salim's children by his first wife are now said to be fond of his second wife as well. They also adopted a daughter named Arpita
