Radiumhospitalet

The Norwegian Radium Hospital (founded 1932 in Oslo, Norway) is a hospital dedicated to cancer treatment. It is the largest cancer centre in Northern Europe, with 400 beds and around 2,000 employees. It enjoys a unique position within the Norwegian public health service in having a strong research institute collocated with the hospital. Both national and international evaluations of the clinical as well as the basal research have described the quality of the research as "very good - bordering on excellence". By the strength of its responsibility as national institute of reference, it has recently concentrated deliberately on translational research (transfer research). This activity, and in addition gene therapy, are some of the areas for all-out efforts in future.

The Radium Hospital has always maintained a close cooperation with the national association to combat cancer. The Association finances the main part of all cancer research in Norway. About 75 of those who work permanently in the Radium Hospital are paid by the Association (2004).

The Radium Hospital merged in 2005 with Rikshospitalet to create Rikshospitalet-Radiumhospitalet HF.
