The Golden State Athletic Conference is a college athletics conference in the
National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The conference commissioner is Dr. Cliff Hamlow ofAzusa Pacific University . Conference leadership is shared among the member institutions. The conference was formed inAutumn of1986 .The conference is unique among collegiate athletic conferences as its members are all
Christian colleges located in Central and SouthernCalifornia . They are all similar in enrollment,academic s, athletics and student life.Conference teams have won 20 national championships. Azusa Pacific won the
2004 -2005 as well as the2005 -2006 National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) NAIA Director's Cup. Azusa Pacific's football team, which competes as an independent as the GSAC does not sponsor football, even beat theUniversity of San Diego football team [http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/div_iaa/pioneer/san_diego/opponents_records.php?teamid=241 three consecutive years] . USD football competes in Division I-AA of theNational Collegiate Athletic Association in thePioneer Football League .Hope International University andSan Diego Christian College joined the GSAC in the fall of1999 .
