Wayne Hussey (born Jerry Wayne Hussey on
26 May ,1958 inBristol ,England ) is a British musician, best known as a member of The Mission andThe Sisters of Mercy .Hussey grew up in
Bristol . His early influences includedMarc Bolan and his band, T. Rex. He was thus inspired to become aguitarist . Brought up in theThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints , he rebelled against his parents' wishes to serve as a missionary and moved toLiverpool in the late 1970s to join the scene around Eric's, a notednightclub of the time.Hussey started to perform, most notably with
Pauline Murray &The Invisible Girls and getting his teeth intosongwriting . The first success for Hussey came when he joined Dead or Alive at the request of frontmanPete Burns . After Burns retreated to become more studio-based Hussey decided to leave and was offered a position with the legendaryThe Sisters of Mercy , concentrating on 12-string and 6-string guitars. With the falling apart of the Sisters, Hussey and bassist Craig Adams set up the Mission, recruiting Mick Brown on drums and Simon Hinkler on guitars.Hussey has produced and played on records by stablemates All About Eve and in the late 1990s provided some re-mixes for the LA based
Cleopatra Records . He also produced, remixed, and appeared on some tracks for the Columbus, Ohio based bandGossamer including the track 'Run' for the first Unquiet Grave compilation by Cleopatra Records. He also played on "Brilliant Mistakes" by the Greek bandFlowers of Romance . He has played live with bothGary Numan andThe Cure .Currently Hussey uses the Line 6 Variax 500 when playing live, previously he has used a
Gretsch White Falcon. In the studio he uses both aFender Telecaster and Starcaster. His signature 12 string set up currently has a Fender Electric, a Vox Teardrop and a Ovation Acoustic. During his time with the Sisters he used aAria Pro II .He currently lives in
Brazil and is a life-longLiverpool FC supporter. After he split up The Mission for the second time in early 2008, he released a solo album called "Bare".
